Hawaiian Electric is devoted to boosting the use of clean energy in Hawaii and decreasing the reliance on imported oil. Their mission is to reach 100% renewable energy, and they are striving to provide their customers and communities with dependable, affordable, and clean energy. By diversifying Hawaii's energy mix with locally produced renewable energy sources, it will help reduce the amount of oil used to generate electricity. Although renewable energy will reduce the use of oil for electricity production, it will not completely eliminate the need to import crude oil or refined products for land and air transportation.
The rise in renewable energy was partially offset by a 2% increase in electricity sales.
